CHRISTMAS IN THE FORT
SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS PARADE
To spread Christmas Spirit to the residents of Spanish Fort and the surrounding communities, the City of Spanish Fort hosts its annual "Spirit of Christmas" Parade on the first Saturday of each December at the beautiful Eastern Shore Centre located on State Highway 181, Exit 38 off Interstate 10. Please refer to the City Calendar for scheduled details.
This family-oriented parade is led by the prestigious Daphne-Spanish Fort Air Force JROTC Color Guard and Cadets, followed by the award-winning Spanish Fort High School Marching Band and Cheerleaders the Spanish Fort, Miss Spanish Fort High School and the Grand Marshal. Past participants have included local and national dignitaries, the Dogwood Trail Maids, representatives of Alabama's Distinguished Young Women, Little Miss Spanish Fort and Tiny Miss Spanish Fort, Baldwin County Strawberry Festival Queen, and Miss Faulkner State Community College. Adding to the holiday cheer are area Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, various talented dancing troupes, floats decorated by church and business organizations, and everything from baton twirlers to unicyclists, all with holiday-themed parade throws. Of course, the "Spirit of Christmas" Parade would not be complete without a visit from that most famous jolly old elf, Santa Claus, arriving with a little assistance from the Spanish Fort Fire Department!
CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING
Bring in the Christmas spirit every year at our Annual Christmas Tree Lighting at the Spanish Fort Community Center. Light refreshments are served as the Spanish Fort High School Choir leads fellow community members in Christmas carols. The night ends with the lighting of the Christmas tree.
NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS BOOK READING
Each year during the Christmas holiday season, the City of Spanish Fort hosts its 'Twas the Night Before Christmas book reading. This special family event is held at the Spanish Fort Community Center. Children are encouraged to wear their warmest pajamas and bring their favorite blanket to sit on. The evening begins with the joyous singing of Christmas carols, putting everyone in the Christmas spirit in anticipation of the main event! With much animation and excitement, the guest readers read aloud from several Christmas holiday books, much to the children’s delight. The final story, Clement Clarke Moore’s memorable poem, 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, is read by a very special guest reader from the North Pole! As you can imagine, the atmosphere is magical for all little ones (and grown-ups) in attendance. Following our storytime, cookies and warm cocoa are served to all.
This memorable event has become an annual tradition for many families in Spanish Fort and the surrounding area. We welcome you to join us and make it a Christmas tradition for your family, too!
