Effective immediately, Mayor Mike McMillan has lifted the previously imposed curfew for all areas located within the city limits of the City of Spanish Fort.

REMINDER TO ALL CONTRACTORS REGARDING HURRICANE CLEANUP

In an effort to protect our citizens from uninsured or unsecured businesses, the City of Spanish Fort would like to remind all contractors that are assisting in Hurricane Sally clean-up that Business Licenses must be obtained from City Hall before beginning any work within the city limits. Application forms can be obtained from the City's website at https://www.cityofspanishfort.com/business-licenses-taxes.

Payment can be made by credit card (4% fee), cash or check. License fee is prorated after July 1 to $62.00. Completed applications may be emailed to permitclerk@cityofspanishfort.com or dropped off at City Hall. Office hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 - 4:30 p.m. Credit card payments can be made over the phone at 251-626-4993.

Mayor Mike McMillan has pushed back the hours of the curfew for the City of Spanish Fort to assist neighbors to the South that are in need of services that are available in the City of Spanish Fort. The new curfew hours are from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

The City Council of the City of Spanish Fort has imposed a curfew in those areas in an along U.S. Highway 90 and 98 from the Mobile/Baldwin County line to the U.S. Highway 98 Bypass (a portion of Battleship Parkway /the Causeway) within the corporate limits of the City of Spanish Fort, Alabama. The curfew shall be from dusk to dawn beginning on Tuesday, September 15, 2020. In the event that the curfew is no longer needed, in the discretion of the Mayor, after consultation with the Chief of Police, the Mayor is hereby granted the authority to lift the curfew.

Based on the voluntary evacuation recommendation issued by Emergency Management Officials for Zones 1 and 2 in Baldwin County, Alabama, and the fact that a portion of Zone 3 which consists of the Causeway, Pineda Island, and Blakeley River Road in the City of Spanish Fort are subject to flooding, the City Council hereby recommends that the areas along the Causeway, Pineda Island, and Blakeley River Road consider a voluntary evacuation at this time, and further, that they be directed to follow the directions of the Governor and/or Emergency Management Officials. In the event that Zone 1 and 2 become mandatory evacuations, those areas along the Causeway, Pineda Island, and Blakeley River Road evacuate. In the event persons need to seek shelter, contact the Baldwin County Emergency Agency for shelter availability at 251-972-6807

WASTE PRO SERVICES POSTPONED

Waste Pro garbage and waste services will not run Tuesday, September 15th, due to Hurricane Sally. Schedule for the remainder of the week will be decided and announced once conditions are safer.

The City of Spanish Fort will be issuing Right-of-Way entry passes for Hurricane Sally for residents/property owners and business owners of the Causeway and Pineda Island. Passes will be issued at Spanish Fort Community Center (7361 Spanish Fort Boulevard) through 4:30 PM on Monday, September 14, and at Spanish Fort Police Department (30500 State Highway 181, Suite 618) from 4:30 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday, September 14, and from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm on Tuesday, September 15.

 

Residents of the Causeway and Pineda Island must bring a photo ID and a current utility bill/deed to Spanish Fort Community Center for permitting. Business owners must bring a photo ID and a copy of their current City Business license. Permits are currently limited to two per business or household.

 

The Spanish Fort Community Center will be closed beginning Tuesday, September 15, and will reopen to issue additional permits once conditions are safer.

SPECIAL CALLED CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION

SPANISH FORT COMMUNITY CENTER CLOSURES

August 13, 2020

Municipal Elections are on Tuesday, August 25th. Spanish Fort Community Center will be open for VOTING ONLY on that day. All city services will be suspended until Thursday, August 27th, and the Spanish Fort Public Library will be closed to the public.

Wednesday, August 26th, Spanish Fort Community Center and SFPL will be closed for cleaning and sanitizing procedures.

City staff will be available via phone at 251-626-4884 from 8 am - 4:30 pm both days. Spanish Fort Public Library will still be available for Grab-n-Go curbside pickups (call 251-410-7323).

APPLICATION FOR MUNICIPAL ABSENTEE BALLOT

Municipal Elections for the City of Spanish Fort will be held on August 25, 2020. Residents of the City of Spanish Fort will be able to vote from 7 am until 7 pm at the Spanish Fort Community Center (7361 Spanish Fort Blvd). The deadline to register to vote is August 10, and the deadline to submit an application for a regular municipal absentee ballot is August 20. NOTICE OF ELECTION OF MUNICIPAL OFFICERS

Notice is hereby given that on Tuesday, August 25, 2020, an election for the purpose of electing a Mayor and a Councilmember (aldermen) for each single member district: District 1; District 2; District 3; District 4; District 5, for the City of Spanish Fort, Alabama, will be held, and at that time all registered and qualified electors of the state, who reside within the corporate limits of Spanish Fort, Alabama, and have resided therein for 30 days or more immediately preceding the date of the election, and who are qualified to vote in the county precinct which embraces and covers that part of the corporate limits of Spanish Fort in which the elector resides, will be authorized to participate in the election. Beginning July 7, candidates may begin qualifying at Spanish Fort Community Center. Candidates must file a Statement of Economic Interests form with the Alabama Ethics Commission in order to appear on the ballot. The deadline to qualify to run for municipal office is July 21, by 5:00 pm.

PUBLIC NOTICE - TORNADO SIRENS


The 1st Wednesday of each month, Spanish Fort will conduct a test of its tornado sirens at 12:00 pm, pending weather. 
This is only a test. If you live within the city limits and are not able to hear the sirens, please call the main police desk at 251-626-4919.
