SPANISH FORT SENIOR CENTER

The Senior Center provides a place in Spanish Fort where individuals can come together to share lives, stories, and memories with old friends, and establish new relationships and friendships. We have events and activities that occur each month, such as our Birthday Bingo, Potluck Lunch, Ice Cream Social, and monthly Lunch and Learn events that include an educational topic and a lunch that is provided. We have the perfect space for your next gathering with your friends to play your favorite game of cards. We have games available on-site to play, such as Scrabble, Dominoes, Checkers, and Chess; but we encourage you to bring a favorite and a friend whenever you want to play! When the weather is pleasant, sit out on our patio overlooking the pond and enjoy your time at the Spanish Fort Senior Center.

WHERE ARE WE?

We are located in the Spanish Fort Community Center (7361 Spanish Fort Boulevard), right behind the Spanish Fort Public Library. When facing the Community Center, drive back to the overhang on the left side of the Community Center. The Activities Director's office, exercise facilities, classroom, and kitchen area are all located in that hallway. If you are coming in through the main doors, go past the library doors to the glass doors at the back of the building, facing the retention pond behind the Community Center. We are in the hallway to your left.

WHO CAN USE THE EXERCISE ROOM?

Use of the Senior Center's exercise and fitness area is restricted to persons 55 and older whose primary residence is within the city limits of Spanish Fort. Hours for the exercise and fitness room are the same as the Senior Center. For those who meet these qualifications and wish to come in and exercise, Exercise Facilities Application must be completed and submitted, along with a release from the applicant's physician which states that it is okay for the applicant to exercise in an independent exercise program. Both of these documents must be completed and submitted prior to use of the exercise and fitness area. Paperwork is available in the Senior Activities Director's office, located beside the exercise room, or at the front desk of City Hall.

WHAT DO YOU DO?

We have many activities going on in the Senior Center. We have meals together, like our monthly Lunch and Learn, where we bring in a community resource to talk to us about their services and answer our questions. We also have a monthly Potluck Luncheon. The main course is provided, but everyone brings a side dish or dessert. This is a great opportunity to mingle with friends before listening to a local speaker present on a topic of interest, such as gardening, painting, or coffee brewing.

We also play games together. We have multiple community resources who sponsor Bingos, Penny Auctions, Jeopardy, and more! Sometimes, we get together to play board games or card games. When the weather is nice, we have picnics where we play games like cornhole, Bocce Ball, and ladder ball.

Recently, we have started meeting together for our monthly Tour of the Town, where we visit local destinations we may not have visited before. Some of our destinations include American Sport Art Museum and Archives, Eastern Shore Lanes, and Fairways Indoor Golf. This is a chance for us to get to know each other outside the walls of the Senior Center.

We also have various groups that meet together monthly or weekly - Book Club, Handcrafts, Chess Club, Open Studio Art, Mahjong, Canasta, and Sewing for Missions. To get connected with any of these groups, contact the Senior Activities Director, Heather Allen, at activities_director@cityofspanishfort.com.
