NOTICE OF CITY COUNCIL VACANCY
October 8, 2024
The Spanish Fort City Council Seat representing District 4 will become vacant as of
October 15, 2024. This position is open to resident qualified electors of Spanish Fort City
Council District 4 (see attached legal description and map) who wish to be represent
District 4 on the Spanish Fort City Council. The City Council will appoint an elector
residing in District 4 to fill the remainder of the term, which expires on November 3, 2025.
The City Council serves as the legislative body of the City of Spanish Fort. The City Council
has authority over the finances and property of the City of Spanish Fort. The City Council
establishes policies, passes ordinances, sets tax levels, determines what sorts of services the
City of Spanish Fort will offer and has authority over all other legislative aspects of
municipal government. Regular Council meetings are held on the first and third Mondays
of each month at 6:00 p.m., with a scheduled work session preceding the Council meeting
at 4:00 p.m. Other special meetings or work sessions are held as needed. If you wish to be
considered, please mail or bring your resume to the Spanish Fort Community Center, 7361
Spanish Fort Blvd, Spanish Fort, Alabama 36527, or email to City Clerk, Rebecca A. Gaines
at cityclerk@cityofspanishfort.com. The Spanish Fort City Council will fill the

Pursuant to Ordinance No. 594-2021 and Code of Alabama (1975) § 11-47-116, et seq., the Police Chief of the City of Spanish Fort is authorized to sell certain abandoned, stolen, lost and unclaimed property at public auction. If you believe any of these items are yours, you must present proof of ownership to the Spanish Fort Police Department within 20 days of this notice.
The following items of abandoned/unclaimed property will be sold at auction to the highest bidder on April 13, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. The location of the auction will be the Spanish Fort Police Department, 30500 State Highway 181, Suite 618, Spanish Fort, Alabama 36527. MOSQUITO SPRAYING
August 18, 2023
The City of Spanish has been made aware of a case of Eastern Equine Encephalitis within the City and another case in the surrounding area. While City of Spanish Fort sprays for mosquitos weekly along each roadway and street in the City, to protect against the encephalitis threat, the City has contracted with a third-party vendor to immediately begin spraying additional chemicals designed to supplement the type of chemicals used by the City. Residents may see vehicles spraying chemicals in their neighborhoods. Drivers are urged to use caution around slow-moving vehicles.
The City also is working in conjunction with the Baldwin County Health Department and the Alabama Department of Public Health to set mosquito traps in various areas of the City for testing purposes. Anyone who sees a mosquito trap is advised to leave the trap in place, and it will be collected by City or Health Department personnel at an appropriate time.
Residents are advised to be cautious and take steps to protect themselves and their pets from mosquitoes. Here are a few tips to prevent mosquito bites:

To protect yourself from mosquito bites at home it is best to prevent mosquitoes from getting into your house.
-
Maintain fly screens on windows, doors, vents and chimneys.
-
Use insect surface sprays both inside and outside the house to kill mosquitoes.
-
Use an effective mosquito repellent, containing either picaridin or diethyltoulamide (DEET) on all exposed skin.
-
Remove stagnant water around the house so mosquitoes cannot breed.
-
Change the water in pet drinking bowls, bird baths and vases at least once a week.
-
Check and maintain rainwater tanks and water storage vessels to ensure screens are intact and limit mosquito entry.

The Spanish Fort Public School Commission has a vacancy. This volunteer position is open to resident electors of the Spanish Fort Special 3 Mil Ad Valorem School District who wish to be involved in helping give advice and make recommendations to the Baldwin County Board of Education regarding the use of the special 3 mil tax proceeds in the Spanish Fort schools. Christmas Tree Wrapping Paper and Cardboard Recycling
The City will be partnering with Waste Pro to place roll-off dumpsters at Spirit Park, located at the end of Emily Frances Lane, beginning on December 20, 2024, and continuing through January 3, 2025, for the purpose of recycling paper and cardboard generated from the Holidays. Other forms of trash should not be placed in these dumpsters.
Cancellation of Public Hearing for Ordinance No. 690-2024
The Public Hearing scheduled for Ordinance No. 690-2024 on December 16, 2024, is canceled. This Ordinance was removed from the agenda for amendment as a result of City Council discussion during the December 2, 2024, City Council Work Session. All other Public Hearings will be held as scheduled.
